Meet Meagan Davenport: Your Copyediting Partner

Meagan is a freelance copyeditor with a certificate in editing from the University of Chicago, BA in European Studies (History minor), and over 20 years’ business experience. Whether you’re looking for an editor or a good essay on writing, books, and Western civ, you’re in the right place.

Meagan’s mission as an editor is to polish the written word while retaining authors’ unique voices. She works with Christian authors and biblical counselors on a variety of projects.

As a writer, Meagan is passionate about living into truth, goodness, and beauty on a daily basis—and writing about it.

“No matter what anyone tells you, words and ideas can change the world.”

—John Keating, Dead Poets’ Society

Whether you need a Maxwell Perkins or a C. S. Lewis, Meagan is ready to resonate.

Maxwell Perkins, a longtime editor at Scribner’s, worked with the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and Thomas Wolfe during his tenure there. “Perkins’s keen editorial eye and gentle guidance helped elevate The Great Gatsby from a promising manuscript to a masterpiece of American literature," Brady Gilliam wrote in his 2025 article, “Famous Author-Editor Duos From Literary History."

C. S. Lewis, comparatively, provided “an ingenious and sneakily serious fictionalized commentary . . . on The Lay of Leithian (Tolkien's unfinished epic poem about Beren and Lúthien)," wrote Clint Schnekloth on Substack in 2025. "Lewis, in mock-scholarly mode, treats the poem as a recovered text from a lost tradition, offering variant readings, editorial debates, and dry academic footnotes as if he were Beowulf's future commentator.”

Meagan resides somewhere in between Perkins and Lewis: She pays attention to style and grammar, so authors can focus on writing; she also catches the vision of a book and helps bring it to fruition.

More About Meagan

Meagan has been editing in some capacity since high school, and was thrilled to finally get the official job title of “editor” in 2021. A reduction in force some years later prompted her to pivot into freelancing, combining her passions for the written word, all things European history, and biblical counseling—not to mention 20+ years’ business experience—into one big Venn diagram.

A Peek Into the Past

One of the earliest comments Meagan remembers from a report card was that she was already correcting her teacher’s spelling.

That was in second grade.

Even then, she was a voracious reader; in third grade, she clocked close to 9,000 pages read by year’s end. (For context, The Lord of the Rings is approximately 1,200 pages.)

Reading and words matter. Meagan knows that all too well as a copyeditor; she’s spent years polishing all kinds of documents for consistency, clarity, and, of course, grammatical accuracy.

When she’s not copyediting, you’ll likely find her advocating in one fashion or another for the Oxford comma—and the introverts among us (including herself), who recharge alone or in quieter settings.

She was a presenter at several internal company events; notable sessions include:

  • “Gently Shake the World: How introverts can thrive during company meetings, and how extroverts can support them”
  • “Introvert Advocacy in an Extrovert World”
